The previous owners had glass in here, but we didn’t really use this corner, so it wasn’t touched the first year we had it.

Spending more time at home these past few months, we decided it was important to have a backyard with a place for parties, late-night chats, and the love of friends and family. family members. That’s what we did with the bonfire!

Fire Pit Seating Ideas Perfect For Socializing

Some of our favorite PNW camping memories are late night chats around camp, so we decided to bring a little magic into our home in the form of a fire pit. rear end!

The first task on your list is to build your back burner – make a list of the things that are important to you.

Looking for more seating? What does your ideal vacation spot look like? What about an underground fire pit or an above ground fire pit? Once you have an idea of what’s important to you, it’s time to start drawing!

We wanted a portable fire pit that we could take camping. We also want it to be surrounded by plants and flowers, so we decided to create a flower bed around it. The sky’s the limit when you build your own backyard fire pit – it’s your place!

Backyard Landscaping Ideas To Upgrade Your Hangout Spots

Don’t worry about the exact measurements yet. Get a poster board and draw a piece of your work.

Bertie and I made a few changes before we came up with a plan we were both happy with. An active drawing saves a lot of time and energy to change things or think about the right dimensions.

Our finish measures 12 feet (garden box to garden box) x 13.5 feet from bench top to seat back.

One of the most important things you can do before you land is check with your city about fire patterns.

It’s important to know your city’s restrictions on residential electricity use so you don’t end up with a big fine in the future. You can call your city to answer your questions if that’s convenient for you!

A Step-by-Step Guide to a Backyard Fire Pit Step 1: Clean and Prepare Your Area

In order to start making the right plans for a garden pit, you need to know exactly where it will be in your yard! Clear all debris in the designated area so that you have a clear view of the area you are working on.

For visual purposes, we have placed the trees roughly to help us decide how big they should be. We like this method because we have the tools and it allows us to move things quickly.

Backyard Landscaping Ideas To Improve Your Outdoor Space

After your heavy measure, take the time to officially measure the room. This way you know how much information you will need in the next steps.

After taking measurements, we got to work removing the old red pavers, red mulch and cutting sod from our yard. We’re still using our scraps of wood and sticks as a guide, but you can be creative and use a landscape paint.

It took a lot of effort and Bertie and I were exhausted by the end of the day!

After clearing and leveling the site, we dug a trench around the line to mark the site. We want it to be secure and slightly above the ground so we can use it to put the gravel inside.

We remove it so that the gravel does not mix with the soil, it is clean, and it is easy to remove it in the future. We keep the country fabric in place with country ties to keep everything neat and together.

Once the border and bushes are installed, it’s time to fill in the gravel. We chose pea gravel because it is smaller than the stones of the big rivers and it is easy to walk on it. We also prefer pea gravel over regular gravel because it’s gentler on bare feet, and there’s less risk of sharp rocks!

However, we are told that regular gravel settles better than pea gravel, gradually closing the gaps for a more secure fit. Which one to use depends on you and your preferences! (Just a note: rock can be too big for a DIY fireplace project like this – it makes it hard to keep things in position!)

We bought bags of gravel and spent two days shoveling it into the yard from our car. On our first trip, we ordered 20 bags, half of what we actually needed! We had to go back to the store and ended up buying 40 bags. However, we will probably buy five more bags next time to fill the smaller spaces.

In order to keep the pit on a flat surface, we would select three stones and put them in the forest cloth before filling it with gravel. This gives us a portable fire pit with a solid base to stand on.

Once the gravel was in place, we measured two feet around the fire pit and began to remove the sod for the flower beds. We’re not sure what we’re going to plant here, but this time we’re going to try sunflowers and hollyhocks since we have them now!

We also decided to add steps from the stairs to the fire pit to prevent the grass from dying due to the limited traffic to and from it. We cut the branch so that the kick can go into the hole, and the grass will gradually grow around it.

After we made room for the flower beds, we reused the old red carpets to create a platform for the garden boxes on either side of the fire pit.

Best Outdoor Fire Pit Ideas

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures of it, but you can see in the picture below the completed garden box, based on red paving stones.

For the garden boxes/raised beds we chose to use cedar wood because we love the color and length of the wood. However, you can use almost any type of wood that has not been chemically treated, which can save you a lot of work like this!

Once the boxes were made, we ordered the plants and started decorating the place with some greenery! We chose bright pink azaleas to border the flower beds and enhanced the area with a box, just for this shoot! (We gave them a permanent home as a future border wall)

This year we plan to plant sunflowers and daisies in open beds, because the seeds are already there!

Rustic Fire Pit Ideas For Any Outdoor Space

To celebrate our new fire, we’re having a backyard retreat! We enjoy testing different parts of the garden shed before we have visitors. We also took the time to test the distance from the lamp to the furniture and see if we liked the seating arrangement.

Every project comes with ideas and lessons learned. There are a few things we’re going to do differently, and now we’re sharing them with you. This way, we can hopefully save time and energy in building our own simple DIY fire pit.

We will buy gravel in bulk. Loading 40 bags of pea gravel (with two trips to Home Depot) into and out of the car,

Going to the garden was very difficult. These bags weighed about 50 kilograms each and it was exhausting work! If we could do it over again, we would arrange for gravel to be delivered or borrow a trailer to build the gravel on the same trip.

How To Build A Backyard Fire Pit

We will spend more time on stage. When we put the forest cloth down, we noticed that the area also has a slight slope. It’s nothing special
