How To Decorate My Bedroom On A Budget
You may be tempted to spend more time and effort decorating rooms that your guests will see, but neglecting your room is a bad idea. After all, you spend a third of your life in your bedroom, so it’s important to make it comfortable, calm and welcoming. An unfinished bedroom can feel cluttered and transitional, but just because you want to personalize your space doesn’t mean you have to spend a small fortune.
How To Refresh Your Bedroom On A Budget
Whether you have a bedroom and need a little icing to finish the look or are starting from scratch, we spoke to an expert designer to get tips on affordable ways to decorate your bedroom.
Stephanie Beverly is Principal Interior Designer and Principal Artist at Twelve15 Design Studio located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
No, we’re not talking about Amazon (although we do love a good Prime deal). Search your home for things you no longer use and move them into the bedroom, suggests Beverly.
“Buy your house,” he said. “Often, people have styling and decorative items at home that they can use in the bedroom.” Sometimes, a trendy lampshade that doesn’t quite fit in the living room can be found right next to your bed.
Tips On How To Decorate A Nursery On A Budget
Dealing with a small bedroom? “Strategically add a mirror to make the room feel bigger and show off more elements,” says Beverly. Hanging a mirror behind your bed or above your vanity can help bring in extra natural light and complement bare walls without overwhelming them.
Search thrift stores and flea markets for used glasses. A coat of vintage mirror paint and a little glass cleaner is very easy to apply.
Buying fine art can be expensive and you don’t want to buy a hand painted piece for your bedroom. Instead, Beverly suggests DIYing a simple canvas painting or printing wall art or photography to fill up the empty walls. The easiest way to disinfect a room is to keep those walls completely bare.
“In your bed, from your mattress to your bed sheets—it’s literally life-changing,” says Beverly. Even if you’re decorating a room on a budget, try spending a little money on a comfortable mattress or linens that you’ve noticed.
Upscale Bedroom Decor, Modest Budget
A good night’s sleep is worth spending a few extra bucks. If you can’t afford a full set and still rarely use a top sheet, consider purchasing a fancy fitted sheet instead.
If you want to give your bedroom a sleeker look, Beverly recommends upgrading your window treatments. “Choose window treatments that offer better versatility, or offer blackout or light filtering,” she says. “It’s important to pay attention to the lighting in your space and how it affects the look and feel.”
It’s no secret that buying less costs less. If you’re on a budget, consider going for a minimalist look. It can look sterile if you don’t do it right, but sticking to a simple color palette and streamlined pieces can help your room feel intentionally uncluttered.
“A bedroom lighting upgrade can create space,” explains Beverly. “I like different levels of light, so consider lighting with different brightness levels or a dimmer switch.” Consider replacing an overhead fixture to really transform your bedroom.
How Can I Decorate My Room Without Spending Money
You should have at least two or three light sources in your bedroom. Calculate exactly how many lumens you need by multiplying 10-20 by the square footage of your space.
Changing your bedroom decor every time a trend hits its peak can be expensive. Instead, Beverly suggests DIYing trendy elements and investing more in pieces you know will last for years to come.
If you have no idea where to start, it can sometimes be more expensive to buy a lot of things that you don’t immediately like. If you’re on a budget, there are many design services you can still afford.
“I think it’s also good to consult a designer or decorator for ideas for your bedroom,” says Beverly. “That small investment can save you time and money while motivating you and giving you some direction.”
Budget Friendly Decor Ideas For Your Apartment Bedroom
A fun way to keep your bedroom fresh and new is to change your bedding every season, says Beverly. Although it requires a small investment, it’s a great way to avoid boring your space and make it look like you’ve done a little renovation every season.
A good rug can cost several hundred dollars or more, but Beverly says the splurge is worth it. Adding something soft underfoot won’t just finish off your bedroom, it’ll make it even nicer on winter mornings.
One place where clutter always seems to pile up is the bedroom. To keep your bedroom clutter-free, place a few inexpensive baskets around your room and choose furniture with built-in storage (such as a nightstand with drawers).
A potted plant is one of the cheapest ways to update a bedroom. Not only does it add a pop of color to your space, it also cleans the air (win-win!) Choose an easy-maintenance plant to avoid constantly replacing dead houseplants.
Budget Friendly Kids’ Room Design Ideas
We love a good snake plant or philodendron in the bedroom as they are usually indestructible and add a lot of beauty.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to update your bedroom, look no further. Paint your ceiling a different color than white for a fun change that can add more depth and interest to your space.
Filling a blank wall doesn’t have to be expensive. Hanging dried eucalyptus on the wall is an easy and natural way to complement your walls and add some color to your bedroom.
Darker and bolder paint makes a bigger impact. Change an entire room with one gallon of paint. Consider painting all four walls a rich dark color or paint just one accent wall for a pop of color.
Cozy Bedroom Ideas On A Budget For The Best Sleep Ever
As we’ve listed above, there are many ways to update your bedroom without emptying your wallet. Simply rearranging furniture, “shopping” your home to see what you already own, or DIYing a version of an expensive piece you’ve seen everywhere can help spruce up your bedroom without breaking the bank.
Bedroom DIY projects can range from simple to extravagant—but if you’re crafty and want to achieve a luxurious look on a budget, you might want to consider DIYing some aspect of your bedroom, like painting a mirror and installing new hardware. on a dresser, or build a headboard from scratch.
