Kitchen Before And After On A Budget

Kitchen Before And After On A Budget – The kitchen in our new house is one of my favorite rooms for good reason. It’s dark and dated, with a finish I wouldn’t choose. Anyway, I knew we didn’t have the budget for a full renovation, so I worked on it. It may not be magazine worthy, but I am very excited about the new and improved space! It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint and a new tool can do. Come see the before and after photos and see for yourself!

The kitchen is actually very spacious, but you don’t feel it when you enter. Dark cabinets, trim and lighting create a sense of darkness and isolation. We painted all the cabinets, walls and trim in Sherwin Williams Alabaster and it completely changed the space. Light paint makes it bigger and more welcoming. Don’t you think?

As I mentioned before, we’re on a tight budget, and if you’ve done any research on artwork, you know it’s not cheap! However, we want them to be done with technology for a long time so that they don’t fall apart (and I have 9 months and I don’t want to do such a big job). We cut some corners by hiring a painter to paint the doors, and we (like my wonderful mother-in-law) painted the bottom of the cabinets and stripped all the doors to sand and trim before giving them to the painter. This cut the price in half for us!

Another upgrade that made a big difference was the kitchen faucet. Now that things were easier, the dark brass tube stuck out like a sore thumb. We replaced it with this Signature Hardware brass plate to match the brass sink. I would never have chosen a brass basket, I think the combination of the faucet really pulled it together and made it work!

The application tool provided a demo in the update. We couldn’t be happier with his quality and customer service! If you are looking to update your kitchen, check out their website here. They have everything you need!

The primary light is the undimmed light in the center of the room. We changed this and added dimmer lights for better lighting because the kitchen doesn’t get much natural light. I love having a dimmer switch to create a soft ambient light for parties and entertaining. This is such a difference!

We switched to the Keurig K-Cafe and I am very impressed! I even put together this cute coffee station for fun! Love these rose gold espresso spoons and honey pots. All from Amazon!

My new favorite cookbook is The William Sonoma Cookbook. It has lots of delicious recipes and looks great on display! I also love this large bowl from Regina Andrew. I’m not a big fan of granite and marble, so showing off beautiful things like this helps take my mind off it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed seeing our kitchen remodel on a budget. If you want to update your kitchen but don’t have the money to renovate it, find other ways to update it and try it yourself! Our original kitchen, built in 1992, has a modern oak design with only a few stainless steel appliances added by our predecessors. Over the years, we’ve completed various DIY kitchen projects on a budget.

There have been minor repairs and improvements, from the addition of glass tile back to some new equipment. The first time we painted our kitchen cabinets white, everything changed.

We bought our house when oak was all the rage and even 8 years ago beige is still a good choice. We still love our favorite neutral wall color, but our style and taste have changed. The good news for us is that we were able to use inexpensive DIY projects to give our kitchen a makeover.

Budget Kitchen Makeover

Now we try to find timeless options in choosing home decor. However, we don’t want to add anything new to this kitchen if we don’t have to.

You can paint the walls, cabinets, and even the backsplash to change your kitchen to match your current decor. A fresh coat of paint can go a long way. At first we planned to paint only the small cabinets, but once we started, we realized that everything needed a new coat or two.

Whether it’s painting, replacing doors, or completely gutting your kitchen, your cabinets are the perfect place to start designing the kitchen of your dreams. The good news is, if it’s not your style, you don’t have to paint them.

For example, in this small kitchen, our friends got a modern feel without painting the oak beams! We love the modern touches like the new black hardware and upgraded faucets.

Since our oak beams have seen better days, we decided to paint them instead of replacing them entirely. Their design is the cheapest and best option.

For reference, our kitchen has 12 upper cabinets with doors, a 3-tier designer island with two cabinets, and 11 lower cabinets with doors and 12 drawers. Our entire kitchen layout is 12 x 14 feet = 168 sq. ft

The area of the main cabinet is about 40 square meters. The legs and the small cabinet are approx. 43.5 m². A real official base.

So, using the painting estimates above, we estimate that a professional artist to professionally paint your closets will cost around $2,800.

About $150 for paint and accessories. Please note that we have other paints and supplies. It’s safe to say that kitchen art painting doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars.

The $150+ spent on paint and supplies (new foam roller, Frog tape, gloss remover, paint pan) was well worth it to paint not only the cabinets, but the back as well.

We compared different white paints and settled on the purest and best emerald paint. We did not want to differ from the current white color on the modifications. Test paint colors in different lighting conditions and compare them to existing paint colors on renovations and additions.

Sherwin Williams says a gallon of paint should cover about 100 square feet. With my calculations above, it’s obvious why I got a little more than ½ gallon of paint. I have a little green left over because I had to paint the outside of the island and didn’t include it in the square footage estimate.

We chose a large bottom freezer French door refrigerator that has served our family well. Now we can easily store and retrieve food. Not to mention we’ve had the LG version of this fridge for over 10 years and it still works great!

You’d be surprised how much dirt can accumulate on your hands, on the hinges of your cabinets, and on the walls. Don’t forget to wipe down the carpets and appliances, too. Starting with a clean slate goes a long way, especially if you’re not doing a full hack.

Hardware may seem like a small thing, but buy modern handles, screws, or consider painting existing hardware to match the new look.

If you’re looking for a good counter but you’re on a budget, you can use composite materials such as outdoor stone to save money.

Modern Kitchen Makeover On A Budget

Adding a new capiz chandelier to the kitchen island helped bring all of our design choices together. Feel free to add texture, warmth and character when choosing accessories.

You can recycle old items or buy new modern chairs or stools for your kitchen. You don’t need to replace this table completely if new chairs can give it a modern look.

The glass mosaic tile we have in our kitchen is very old. Either we remove it and completely repair it, or we try to paint it. We thought so
