Simplicity is one of our values and I love that Shaws sinks are handcrafted and signed by the manufacturer, with a lifetime warranty and certificate of authenticity.
You’ll also notice the marble edging under the sink, which is a piece of marble we added under the sink to catch water drips. While this is a beautiful design, it also serves to protect your floors from water damage.
We designed the piece to rest under the sink, something to consider before creating a countertop or vanity top. It is about 4″ deep and the back of the sink sits on another small piece that is not visible after installation.
I’m sharing pictures below that show exactly how we did it because I couldn’t find examples of us planning these details! We designed it to the best of our ability. It was important to me that the thickness of the edge corresponded to the thickness of the worktop. I think these small details make the design feel thoughtful and cohesive.
Timeless Kitchen Trends That Are Here To Stay
I’m a total marble girl. I am not afraid of its shortcomings (read more about concrete slabs). I have decades old pieces of furniture that show nice wear and tear from use over time. We chose Bedrosians’ Glorious White, which is a popular light marble – we wanted something simple.
We also decided to place the board directly above the cabinet. This means there is no backing and the edge of the cabinet is not laminated so it looks like a real 2cm piece. This can be done with 2cm or 3cm planks, but this is not recommended on an island as it requires support below the surface.
When we were finalizing the cabinet design, I knew we wanted to put a refrigerator somewhere in the store where the workers would store food and, of course, champagne for the customers!

I think we’ve found the perfect gray cabinet color! Not too gray, not too beige, it’s golden stripes of gray.
We had this beautiful brass faucet made in Morocco. I like it because it’s handmade and doesn’t feel mass produced.
Tip: You can order it with a side sprayer and don’t forget to check the spout depth/tub distance.
I went back and forth between the klee (zellige) tiles and the underground marble slab. I think they are both very nice. In the end, I felt that the marble subway was a timeless touch.
