Corey and I just took part in the One Room Challenge for the first time – the idea is for bloggers and designers to take one room in their home and completely renovate it in 6 weeks. Ambitious and a little crazy, we decided to give our master a bath.

Before we get to the after photos, let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember what this bathroom used to be like – I think I should remind you of the before photos so you can fully understand what it’s like.

This is a change. Now when I walk into our bathroom, I feel like I’ve stepped into another world. I didn’t think it was really mine.

Boring, brown and boring. Then a few years ago we had problems with our shower stall, so we started a demo to restore it and used it for about 3 years. So, for the last 3 years, my bathroom has looked like this:

Well… for the past 6 weeks we have invested every spare second and energy into the complete transformation of this room. I chronicled the trip here, so if you want to know, do so before reading on. I promise, it’s worth the wait.

This week is all about finishing some long-running projects, finishing the sink and decorating the room. I can’t believe what a difference the last 10% made in this room – from nice but a bit clean to comfortable, inviting and my dream bathroom.

Can you handle glass milk containers? They are from Dee Lawless (one of our sponsors!) and I am in love. These are the knobs we used on the cabinets and these are the knobs we used on the drawers. I gave Corey complete decision making power when it came to bathroom hardware and he knocked it out of the park!

Let’s talk about the table – it’s quartz and it’s so beautiful it makes me want to cry every time I see it. That’s it.

This was our original plan for this bathroom and it wasn’t in our budget – but when a friend joined us in renovating our bathroom for this challenge, her husband told me he knew a company that made stone slabs and countertops. He wants to sponsor this project. I just died. It was fun to come to their stone yard and browse all the amazing options and pick one for our bathroom!

Corey and I wanted something with a bit of a marble feel – something with a lot of movement that would stand out in the room. Our original plan was to do a tile backsplash around the black peony tile backsplash, but between time constraints and lack of energy, we settled on a simple quartz backsplash and that was me.

We did it. Of course, this allows the countertop to be the star of the show, and the more classic look blends in perfectly with the rest of the bathroom.

Oh, and can we talk about Moen faucets? They are so elegant, modern and perfect that I could just sit and fall in love all day.

A few weeks ago we talked about beauty lights and what to do with them – I want to use them but I’m worried they won’t be bright enough. You agree with me, but I decided to dive in anyway. We bought these guys super cheap at Lowe’s and painted them black… and I love them! We have these really cool bulbs coming in, and I’m really excited to see how it all looks together. It’s definitely not as bright as it used to be, but I left about half the bulbs in our old thing because it is

Another quick project we have this week is a pony wall shelf. Before it was just white wood, but when we destroyed the old table and had to get rid of it, we thought it would be fun to try something a little different and added some cedar instead. It’s a small detail, but I love how it looks and I love how it brings the wood tones from the ceiling into the rest of the room.

One of the things that I think made a huge difference in this room was the accessories. We haven’t really decorated this room much (maybe because it’s so ugly?!), but it sure makes a big impact. I mean, this massive piece of art actually makes a room. Can you handle it?!

This beauty is from my friend Lisa – she has a shop where she sells everything under the sun with her beautiful designs and I really fell for this piece a while ago – thank you very much to him and he agreed to send it to me. Featured in the room. It goes perfectly with other things and makes me very happy. Like it was really made here, right?!

We’ve made some changes to our yard this spring, including a DIY raised garden bed, and we’ve got some new information on the beautiful rose bushes in the yard. Here is a short list of news about our yard. I’m always a bit afraid to talk about things outside of this time of year…

We are debating whether to add cell phones to our preschool. Today I’m talking about what nursery mobiles I’m looking at and why we might not need them! Now, because this might finally be controversial…the mobile in the nursery…. I want to speak.

Welcome to the second week of class tests! We’ve been completely redoing our little dining nook for over 6 weeks – this week we fixed a few issues and added a hidden bin to our room! Can I get you something? It’s only the second week… So it’s been almost 3 months since I’ve blogged, and I want to thank you for helping me out so much on social media. The amount of time that comes with being a new mom has been a difficult adjustment for me, and since I don’t have many friends in real life, finding this online community of women online was a huge relief. This way, new moms can offer words of kindness and reassurance when I’m a little stressed.

I haven’t had time to blog yet, but Instagram has been your lifeline for the past 9 months, because it’s easy to share things when my day is busy chasing another energetic boy (she’s crawling) at high speed now… omg!). So to everyone I’ve been with lately….thank you. Your words have done so much for my little world and I hope this blog will bear fruit in the future and in some way help someone else feel less alone on their own journey.

And, folks, I’m here now… chasing this girl. He is almost 9 months old and my world has completely turned upside down. I’m so happy and so happy and so full of hope and so full of love and sometimes I just drown. But mostly, I just want to be honest about everything because this mom gig is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and I think it’s a total disservice to make other moms look easy. But I love him madly and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.

How To Make The Most Of Your Small Bathroom Remodel

I mean just look at that precious face. I’m sure he was sent to this planet to destroy me.

Now that the life improvements are out of the way, let’s move on to my little bathroom renovation.

I know it’s a weird transition, but how do you talk about the challenges of motherhood and bathroom remodeling in the same post? I think you’re squashing them and pretending it’s normal.

I recently opened up our little guest bathroom. This is the same bathroom I painted in this post that unexpectedly went viral a few years later. I know many of you
