And contouring my lips, I want to create a sharper contour and balance the proportions.

This Is How To Make Your Lips Look Larger (no Injections Required)
Sure you’ve seen a lot of lip liner trends over the years (let’s face it, they have their ups and downs), but maybe you don’t know the best way to use lip liner. Whether you want more fullness, definition or texture for your lips, lip liner is your go-to choice when you want to take control of shaping your perfect lip shape.
Next, we have some great tips on how to apply lip liner correctly, as well as some fun tricks to make the application even more enjoyable.
First things first: don’t forget your lips. Chapped lips and dry, flaky skin are common at times. However, it is enough to focus on softening and moisturizing the lips. There are a few simple ways to ensure your lips look and feel hydrated. Start by exfoliating to remove excess dead skin, then apply a moisturizing lip balm (we like Sun Bum SPF 30 lip balm, $10). If you want a gentle lip scrub that still works, check out the Fresh Beauties Sugar Lip Polish Exfoliator ($18).
Prepping your lips in the evening is also a super easy way to make sure your lips are in shape 24/7. Apply a lip mask before bed to wake up with a wonderfully soft pout. (See some of our personal favorites here.) And the great thing about lip masks is that you can wear them any time of the day for a nice hydrating treatment. If you apply too much, simply wipe off the excess with a tissue or your finger.
How To Make Your Lips Look Bigger & Younger
Everyone has their own unique lip shape. The best thing you can do is assess your own shape before applying the lip liner and really understand the shape. Look in the mirror and ask yourself a few questions. “What do I love about my lips?” and “What would I change about them?” There are two great places to start. Maybe you have a full lower lip and want to enhance the shape of the upper lip, or maybe you want to create more fullness around you. If you want to figure out how to get the most out of your liner, you need to figure out what you already like and what you want to do.
Once you know which lip liner formula suits you best, it’s time to outline the areas around the lips that you want to focus on. For example, if you want a fuller upper lip, trace the upper lip lightly, exaggerating the lip slightly to create a realistic-looking fullness.
As a general rule, the nude lip liner will go with any shade of lipstick you choose to wear and can be a great base to enhance your lip shape. If nude liner isn’t your thing, you can choose a liner that matches the shade of your chosen lipstick to ensure there are no obvious lines.
To finish filling in your lips with the liner, use your pencil to draw a small shadow in the center of the lower lip. This creates the illusion of fuller lower lips. It’s a trick I use to enhance the shape of lips for photo shoots. Overdo the color a bit here to mimic the shadow effect which gives the lips a fuller look.

Want to learn another cool trick? Celebrity makeup artist Tim Quinn likes to use a sheer tinted lipstick to lightly outline the lips and then fill in the inner corners of the lips with a darker colored pencil. “It’s great to do this before applying lipstick as it gives contour and shape to the lips and is a creative way to use your lip liner,” says Quinn. Another thing she likes to do is use a nude lip liner with a lash line over a dark liner to tone it down a bit. Talented.
The shape of your lips needs to be balanced. So when you’re figuring out how you want your lips to look, make a note of where you need to change the shape and balance everything out.
Now it’s time to apply your lipstick. Although we chose to match lipstick with our lip liner, you can go for any shade you want – don’t be afraid to rock it.
If you overdo your line or feel like you need to clean up the edges a bit, that’s totally fine. There are several ways to improve the shape of your lips. You can smooth everything with your finger to make it look harmonious, or apply some concealer all over the lips and blend with a brush to emphasize the shape. You can also take a thin, precise cotton swab and gently shave off any excess liner to preserve the original shape.
The Ultimate Colour Guide For The Natural Lip Look
After you get used to liner and lipstick, you can apply gloss to add some brightness and dimension to the look of your lips.
Congratulations, you are now a lip liner pro. You’ve mastered the technique of sculpting your lips, and things don’t get any better as you become more familiar with using all kinds of lip liners. Whether you’re going for a neutral shade or a vibrant power lip shade, we’re confident you’ll be able to apply your lip liner here every time. Plump, pouty, pillowy lips. Everywhere you turn, a new actress, model, or influencer is following a pair of extremely scary lips. If you point the finger, you can blame the 1990s fashion and beauty trends on that girl-grunge decade.
But the exaggerated features of Instagram’s biggest beauty players (Kylie Jenner, Candy Johnson, and more) have a lot to do with prevailing beauty aspirations: lips that can vary from defined to barely there sex like a doll.

Abundance is something that “is attributed to health,” said Christine D’Ornano, global vice president of Sisley Paris. “It means you’re hydrated.” Most people focus on hydrating the lips, but Ms d’Ornano emphasizes the importance of hydrating the skin around the lips.
“Wrinkles around the lips actually make the lips look smaller,” she said. (She uses the brand’s best-selling Sisley’s Eye and Lip Contour Balm, $140. If you prefer a more natural formulation, Osea Eye & Lip Cream, $60, contains peptides).
But you can eat the lip scrub. “A lip scrub doesn’t really do anything,” said Daniel Martin, who recently did Meghan Markle’s bridal makeup for her wedding and is a Dior Beauty brand ambassador. “They’re like sugar and don’t really exfoliate.” Instead, he uses a warm, moist cloth on his client’s lips to gently rub dry patches.
Then look for a product that moisturizes deeply. Mr. Martin especially loves Tatcha’s Kissu Lip Mask ($30). It is meant to be worn overnight, but even a few minutes can help. “I’ll model it
