Water was found to be leaking from below where the heating element enters the bottom of the unit.
How To Fit Heating Element In Dishwasher
It seems like it should be an easy fix, but there is nothing holding the gasket in place. See the attached picture – the plastic nut holds everything on the outside of the DW, but everything you see is inside. The diameter of the hole is larger than the element, and no matter how tight the plastic nut is, everything can slide freely. The rubber gasket is pressed against the elements and is now broken, so it needs to be replaced? If so, this is the worst design ever!
A Burning Smell In My Dishwasher During Drying
The heating element needs to be ordered and replaced, it will come with two new rubber seals.

Then called Maytag, it’s a problem to know with maintenance index. It will take two weeks to bring the technology home, but it will be fully covered.
Great, great find @Mdodd, I didn’t know about that service bulletin, thanks for providing it too.
The Most Common Dishwasher Problems, And How To Fix Them
So what the service bulletin says is to replace the heating element I linked to in post #2, which is actually a NEW UPGRADE Heating Element Kit with upgraded bushings and nuts.
We have the same problem with our Kitchenaid dishwasher, model KDTM604KPS0, starting with Serial # FX12, only 16 months old. Repairman said there is a recall, thanks for the confirmation. It’s really annoying because we’ve been waiting for repairs without a dishwasher for a month and our kitchen floor is ruined by leaks. Photo of the attached heating element gaskets: one of the two gaskets has been completely removed, the other is hanging by a thread.
Great picture Andy! Yes, I see it clearly. Thanks for letting us know, I wouldn’t be surprised if more people come on this thread and start saying the same thing.
We purchased a Maytag dishwasher on June 21st and so far have had three separate service calls to replace parts. It is now out of warranty and starting to leak. It looks like from both holes for the heating element. We still have to pay for the service call. I guess I should be able to change myself?
Dishwasher Space Requirements And How To Measure
PS terrible experience with this Maytag. Lesson learned: Don’t buy anything that’s limited to one store with the latest model.
You will need the heating element I linked to in post #2 above, which will come with new bushings. I do not know where to buy it separately.
You don’t have to pay for it. Yes, maybe just a service call, but parts and labor are covered.
1) Replace the heater element and heater nut. Refer to special project code S17304 for all service calls related to replacing heating elements. 100% parts and labor guaranteed (heating element and heating nut).
How To Replace Your Whirlpool Dishwasher’s Drain Pump
Finally solved! The company that Whirlpool sent to look at the repair was rescheduled 4 times, came once to “diagnose” the problem (without new parts), but they finally showed up today with the correct parts and fixed in less than 15 minutes. .
Great @Mdodd Glad you got the upgraded heating element kit and new bushings installed for free.

View Attachment 62871 View Attachment 62872 Click to expand… We have had the same model dishwasher with the same problem since we found water under our hardwood floors in early December. Over $30k in damage and the entire first floor needs to be replaced and possibly our kitchen cabinets. I had a nightmare with Whirlpool. Bought a dishwasher at Costco but it was under a 2 year warranty. Had to call Costco exec Resolutions, admitted the part was wrong and there was no ETA on the barrel. Suddenly Costco stepped in and miraculously this part was shipped. The tech came in today, after two weeks of waiting for the application, only to say that the heating element needs to be replaced to install a new tank, and it’s back in order with no visible ETA. This particular Auth server for WP in our region was not aware of this service issue for the first implementation in mid-December. No one on the WP customer service line is aware of this problem. Homeowners insurance bc WP Red tape will take months to repair and replace.
So we sat and waited for the parts and then a few weeks for the installation. Almost 2 months without a dishwasher is a long time to wait.
Maytag Dishwasher Flashing A Light? How To Fix It
Yes, sorry to hear that, they should be aware of this service bulletin because they just want a new heater kit with new bushings. No shower.
FYI, I had the same problem with Whirlpool. If there is no damage to the floor or damage to the outside of the dishwasher, you can replace it yourself and contact Whirlpool to replace the new heating element. It takes 3 minutes of chat and email exchange to confirm the payment. If your floor has water damage, etc.
I was able to find a new item locally for $52 and the exchange took me 5 minutes.
I am now dealing with that question. I only found the problem because we installed granite counters. I had to remove the entire floor and replace the cabinetry. I have filed a claim with Whirlpool and am waiting to hear back, but from what I have heard, I think I should get the homeowner’s contribution. Has anyone had a leak problem after replacing the heating element? I am so excited to use the dishwasher now.
How To Fix Your Dishwasher: Troubleshooting & Repair
I also dealt with this with our Maytag that we bought in October. The whole floor was destroyed.
The same thing started happening with the Maytag MDB4949SKZ model I bought on 12/2020. Glad I found this thread. Thank you Mdodd. I checked my bushings and they are just loose rubber rings so I can slide the element down. I have a week of service now and I wonder if they used to fix this. I truly believe that everyone using the affected models will experience this at some point, so why not send a statement to registered customers? In particular, the heating element is activated by default. In each new cycle, you must explicitly turn off the heat drying process. At least on my model. When I bought my dishwasher, I registered it with Maytag.
I’m trying to put a silicone bead around the element hole as a temporary fix until the repairman can fix it in 2 1/2 weeks. someone called me

Beaquicy W10518394 Dishwasher Heating Element W10134009 For Whirlpool
Same problem – We had a letter from Whirlpool saying they wanted to replace a part on our Maytag dishwasher. The technician came out and found that the part had failed and was leaking water into the sky. Our sub-floor was destroyed, the tiles were cracked, the cupboards were destroyed. Home insurance won’t cover us because the leak has been going on for 14 days – we don’t know. repair costs up to 5 figures. The technician claimed that Whirlpool had paid to replace some of the kitchens, but tried to blame us for the faulty installation even though the old unit was left with completely corroded bushings – we know it didn’t leak for months after installation. , but started soon after. We have no idea what to do from here.
Same problem with Whirlpool less than two years old. I think we caught him before he did too much permanent damage.
This is an engineering error and/or cost cutting
