Now, comparing yourself to a cartoon reindeer might not be realistic, but having big, bright, fluttering eyes sure is. All you need is a few tricks…
Makeup Hacks To Make Your Eyes Look Bigger
We asked our favorite makeup artists to share the best ways to make your eyes (of all shapes and sizes) look bigger.
According to Carol McKee, MAC Senior Global Artist, this is a must have. “There are little tricks to really open your eyes, but this simple tool will do it quickly.”
The diagnosis is especially helpful when one eye tends to appear smaller and darker than the other. “By curling the eyelashes around the eyes only, the eyes appear lighter and the balance is improved.”
If your eyeshadow collection is black and navy, you have a reason to go shopping.
Easy Ways To Make Your Eyes Look Bigger With Makeup
“The biggest tip to make your eyes look bigger is not to use too much dark eyeshadow,” says Selina Wiley, who has more than 170,000 followers on Instagram for her amazing artistry.
MUA Marnie Abajanis agrees, saying, “Light shadows and light eyeshadows make a space look bigger. I like to wear bright champagne colors for a soft yet glamorous look.”
Please don’t worry. You don’t have to give up your favorite pencil, but Carol suggests swapping out your trusty black for a darker brown like M.A.C.’s Coffee Pencil ($47 at Adore Beauty).
“[Apply] from the lower third of the eye to just below the lash line, and blend and smooth with a brush.”

Alternatively, if you already have dark eyes, you can use this as a gentle alternative. “Instead of a pencil, try putting a dark eyeshadow on the base of your lashes to give some definition. It’s more predictable. It doesn’t make your eyes look smaller,” says Serena.
If the above methods do not suit your eye shape well, tightening can be a life saver. This is when I put the eyeliner on the upper eyeliner line, just below the base of the lash (yes, it’s very close to the actual eyeball, not for tight people).
Marnie says this method “can create the illusion of fuller lashes without taking up space on the lid.”
Just as the cheekbones are emphasized to create dimension, the eyes also benefit from the same type of treatment.

Apply a shimmery eyeshadow to the center of your lid and finish with a “shimmery pearl shade in the inner corner of your eye,” says Serena. “The light reflects on it and immediately makes the eye stand out more.”
If the dark circles under your eyes are blocking your big, beautiful eyes, you may want to hide them with a colored concealer before applying concealer.
“I like to cover my complexion with peach concealer,” says Marnie. “You can just use it on dark areas and use concealer on top. A little makeup is always better than heavy.”
“I often see concealers that look gray under the eyes because the color they choose is too light,” says Carroll. Look for words like “brighten” instead of changing shadows.

Prepping your eye area with a good eye cream also makes a big difference, and concealer glides on smoothly.
“Soft, thin lashes that look towards the inner corner and longer at the outer corner of the eye, opening up to reveal the lid,” says Marnie.
If you don’t like lashes, personal use is also a good option (like Ardell’s Duralash Starter Kit, $8.99 on Amazon). “I take each leg and insert it into the outer third of the eye to lift and widen the shape of the eyes,” says Selena.
You can also use a growth serum like RapidLash® Eyelash Enhancing Serum ($69 on Amazon) to nourish your natural lashes and promote length by focusing on the outer corner of the eye. One of the fun things about makeup is using it to emphasize certain areas of your face. Swipe the contour to create sculpted cheekbones. Just cover your lips lightly and you’ll have perfect lips in no time. If you want your eyes to look bigger and more defined, you can use makeup to achieve that. Making your eyes look bigger may seem like an impossible task, but there are simple ways to do it in seconds as part of your daily routine.

When it comes to eyeshadow, the shade you use can have a huge impact on how bright and open your eyes are. “When it comes to eye shadow colors, using light to medium shades will make your eyes appear more open,” says Billy.

Makeup Tricks Perfect For Small Eyes
“Smoky eyes can make your eyes look smaller depending on how you apply the eyeshadow,” says Billy. “It’s not that you can’t look smoky if you have small eyes, but it’s a good idea to put a dark spot of eyeshadow under your eyeshadow and blend it well from the middle to the top to make it look bigger. It’s more flattering and not like a big full blob of color.”
Billy usually avoids doing black smoky eyes on small eyes, but if that’s a problem for you, he suggests mixing it with a dark brown or gray to tone down the dark shadows. . “
“I always recommend adding a little shimmer or matte shade to the brow bone and inner corner of the eye to bring some light back into the eye,” says Billy. If I just add one
