My mom taught me how to do laundry when I was in high school, but I know a lot of friends who have never done laundry (ahem my boyfriend too). Never judge or be jealous, your mom always wanted to do this for you ;).

** If you don’t know how to wash an item of clothing, find the label. The label is usually on the top or inside of the garment and will tell you how to wash the garment.

The only thing you need to wash is the washing machine, the dirty clothes and the detergent.

Everything is optional to make the check-in process easier and/or to enhance your outfit.

Getting your clothes right is definitely one of the most important parts of laundry, as you don’t want your colors to bleed through and ruin your clothes.

I sort my laundry by dark, light, white, then sheets and towels. A lot of people recommend doing training clothes with a separate load, do it if you want, but I personally don’t.

I recommend removing the stain to ensure that there are actually stains on the garment.

I spray this on the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes to wash it off.

OK, now that the stains are treated, add ONE amount to the washer with the water temperature.

Having the right water temperature will ensure that the dyes on your clothes don’t run over each other and ruin the rest of the clothes.

For bed linen and towels, make whatever color you want. Since my cheeks are white, I keep them warm.

First, you add your laundry. Remember – this can be in pod, liquid or crystal form. Follow the instructions on the package for how much to add depending on the size of the load.

I don’t recommend buying diapers if you live in crowded rooms. For me, the washing machine was not strong enough to crush the pot and the plastic would melt on my garment and ruin it!!

Then it’s time to add softener (it’s optional for me!). I use Downy Calm Softener for this. Repeat how much you need to add.

I also add these color pickers to each load. I’m afraid my clothes will bleed, even though I take good care of them, I make sure nothing bleeds.

Finally, add your clothes. Choose the right water temperature (read above for help). The washing machine may have other buttons for adjustment. On my personal washing machine I set them to “auto-detect” so I don’t have to worry about it. Click Start.

I don’t dry my gym clothes, jeans, bra or favorite sweater. Be careful with general sweaters because you don’t want them to shrink. The label will tell you if you can dry it or not! I just let it air dry.

For the rest of the clothes, I put the dryer on the longest heat setting. After this is done I try to hang the clothes or make the bed ASAP so there are no wrinkles. Sometimes I’m better than others ;).

Well, some things I wash more than others. Of course, I wash training clothes and underwear after each use (most often… sometimes training clothes can get worn out again).
