How To Make Text Bigger In Solidworks – It is often the case that SOLIDWORKS dimension styles are overlooked because it is so easy to do without them. However, they can be used for dimensions that have very general notations attached to them. For example, when I was designing automatic machines, we would often add text on a dimension like “BTS” (Build to Fit) or “DRILL AND GRIP” or “TRANSFER WHEN ASSEMBLY”. I have created a simple example below.
As you can see, I do a few different things with my dimensions in this section. My size 100.0 has a “Make Fit” notation at the top indicating that it will fit any length in the store, so the 100.0 is rounded to 1 decimal place and in parentheses. So I did 3 for this size and I do this 3 so many times that I want a better way.

When I’m on the left, I click the Add or Update Style button (with the star + sign). Then a dialog pops up and I give it a meaningful name (like BTS). In this image I can select any size and from the Add or Update Style button dropdown I can select BTS and it will change 3 things. I just created and tested the Style Dimension and it works great. Then I create a new image and to my dismay, BTS doesn’t show up in the new image dropdown menu;
Automatic Border Creation For Solidworks Drawings
Then I go back to the drawing that has my measurement styles. There is one more thing I need to do to access them. i need to save them as external file.
To do that, I just go back to the left and hit the Record button. I then save it to an external file (.sldstl). I repeat for each dimension I create. Then I go back to my other image and use the load style button and select the size styles I want to include in the new image:
I can then access the SOLIDWORKS dimension styles in the new drawing. I can select it from the dropdown and apply it to the dimensions of this image as well;
Of course, I don’t want to do this every time I want to apply SOLIDWORKS dimension styles from a previous drawing. So there is one more thing to do.
Adjusting The Weight/mass Accuracy In A Solidworks Drawing
I create a new blank drawing, then load my dimension styles as described above, then save the drawing as a formal template and overwrite the old template. Now every new image I create (with this template) will have access to all my dimension styles.

Generally, in product development, once the CAD designs are ready, the next task is to create drawings to hand over to machinists and vendors. Plans act as communication between CAD designers and machinists. They must be clear and precise to avoid confusion and properly state the purpose of the proposal. The need to change the font size may arise when working with drawings with long captions and/or oversized drawings or machinist’s notes.
Solidworks drawings are very user-friendly and give users a lot of flexibility to change the font style, size, and even font format. Below is a picture of the plastic gear motor, which only shows the external dimensions of the product. As you can see in the image caption, the image name is misplaced and is too large by default. Therefore, it is not clear to the reader which parts of the picture it refers to.
To do this we need to right-click on “Sheet Format 1” in the Property Manager tree (highlighted in yellow) and select “Edit Sheet Format”.
How To Automatically Date A Solidworks Drawing
When we select the Edit Sheet format, the fonts can be formatted with a simple double click and the formatting window will appear as shown in the image above.
As you can clearly see, we’ve moved the title to the correct position by dragging its bounding box while it’s active, and also reduced the font size as needed. Remember that Solidworks allows the user many formatting options when it comes to fonts and is very user friendly.
This time also a similar formatting window appears where the user can adjust the font size and also format the font as needed. If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably tried using the Convert SOLIDWORKS Sketch Objects option and it failed.
While we can’t use Convert Objects to Text Outline (at least not yet… SPR is shown at the end of the article), we can use a clever workaround.
How To Create Drawing Templates And Sheet Formats In Solidworks
We do not use “Sketch Text” to convert sketch text to sketch geometry (lines, arcs, and lines). This will actually allow you to redo the thumbnail text, but you’ll lose all references to the original thumbnail text and won’t be able to make simple changes like changing the font size.
If you’re interested in seeing an example of sketch text decomposition, check out this article: Magic 8 ball blog article using sketch object decomposition
We actually create a Projected Curve function that first captures the outline of the sketch text and then applies a transformation to the objects on the curve. Find the steps below.
Next, preselect the outline and plan for the project, then select the Project Curve command.
Sketch Text Convert Entities In Solidworks Workaround
Create a new outline on the same plane where the text outline was created. Select the Transform Objects command, then select any curved edges you created.
HELPFUL NOTE: Hiding the sketch with outline text allows you to easily select curved objects. You can also use other options.
NEXT, let’s make some small changes to the original thumbnail text, such as changing the font-width ratio from 100% to 80%.
Note: changes to the original sketch text that result in changes to geometry other than size may not be fully captured (such as changing the font style). If you do this, you will need to remove the converted sketch objects and reapply the converted objects to the updated curve.
Using Text In Solidworks
Below we see the updated model after changing the font width factor to 80%, where the sketch text has updated the curve, which has updated the transformed objects in the new sketch used for the wrap function.
The solution presented in this article is a solution that cannot convert thumbnail text directly. That said, there is a bug report poll (shown below) where you can vote for a future update. In some cases, you may choose to hide the SOLIDWORKS dimension instead of deleting the dimension. Now the question is how to make the hidden dimension visible again. This article shows how to hide and then show dimensions in the drawing environment.
Step 3: When the Hide/Show Notes option is enabled, the hidden dimensions will be greyed out. At this stage, the shape of the mouse cursor changes to a cross-line eye. Now click on any of the hidden gray dimensions to display them in the image. Clicking on a visible dimension will change its color to gray, which means that the gray dimensions will be hidden when the Hide/Show annotation is selected.
Step 4: Disable Hide/Show Annotations. If only dimension “3” is selected, after disabling Hide/Show Annotations, the annotations will be shown and the others will still be hidden. In the following image, size “3” is selected to display, while size “150” is still hidden.
Solidworks: What You Need To Know About Sketch Text
When the Hide/Show Notes option is enabled, all hidden and displayed dimensions are displayed in gray or black. Selecting the display size changes their color to gray and vice versa. So if the Hide/Show Annotations option is enabled as shown in step 2, any dimension can be set to hide or show. The following image shows how the other dimensions are hidden.
