I show you exactly how I wash my clothes and the products I use to keep my clothes smelling good. There are some real tips and tricks that are sure to earn you compliments on how good you smell!

** If you don’t know how to wash a garment, look for the label. The tag is usually on the top or side of the garment and provides instructions on how to wash that particular garment.

The only thing you need for laundry is a washing machine, dirty clothes and detergent.

Everything else is just extra to make the washing process easier and/or to make your clothes smell better.

Sorting your clothes into proper piles is definitely one of the most important parts of doing laundry because you don’t want your colors to bleed and ruin your clothes.

I sort my clothes into dark, light, white, then sheets and towels. Many people recommend making your work clothes a separate load, so definitely do that if you want to, but personally don’t.

To ensure you get stains out of clothes, I recommend using a stain remover product.

I just spray it on the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes before throwing it in the washing machine.

This OxiClean stain remover is my favorite brand and I can literally get stains out of anything… including the suntan lotion on my white sheets ;).

OK, now that the stains have been dealt with, add ONE load to the washer with the correct water temperature.

Getting the water temperature right can ensure that the fabric color doesn’t mix and ruin the rest of the fabric.

For sheets and towels, sort them by color. Since my sheets are white, I heat them.

First you add your detergent. Souvenir – can come in the form of a capsule, liquid or crystals. Follow the directions on the package for what to add, depending on the size of your load.

I DO NOT recommend getting pods if you live in the dorms. For me, a washer wasn’t strong enough to break the capsule and the plastic would melt into a piece of my fabric and ruin it!

Then it’s time to add fabric softener (this is optional, just what I do!). I use Downy Calm Softener for this. Read the packaging again to find out what to add.

I also include these colored receivers with every shipment. I’m afraid my clothes will bleed even though I sort them correctly, and this ensures nothing bleeds in color.

Finally, add your clothes. Choose the right water temperature (read above for help with this). Your washing machine may have different knobs to adjust. On my personal washing machine I set it to “auto-detect” so I don’t have to worry about it. Press start.

NO workout clothes, jeans with lots of holes, bras or any sweaters I like. Be very careful with sweaters in general because you don’t want them to shrink. The label will tell you if you can dry it or not! I’m just letting this air dry.

For the rest of the clothes, I run the dryer on the longest heat. Once that’s done, I try to hang clothes or make my bed as quickly as possible so there are no wrinkles. Sometimes I’m better at it than others ;).

Well, some things I wash more than others. Of course, gym clothes and underwear I wash after each use (most of the time… sometimes gym clothes can come off with repeated use).
