How To Rid Carpet Of Urine Smell – Unfortunately, there is no “right way” to talk about it, but how to get rid of urine odor is something every mom should know and have in her little bag of tricks.
Try to keep absorbent surfaces in your home from looking (and smelling!) like they haven’t been used as a toilet…today…and for the last three days.
How To Rid Carpet Of Urine Smell
The three main problem areas I always get reports of are carpets, sofas and the dreaded mattress. So we will focus on three because they cause the most problems!

White vinegar is your secret weapon here, in varying amounts depending on the surface you are cleaning, but vinegar is the way to go on all three stains! A lot of people worry about the smell, but I promise you, once it dries you won’t even know it’s there!
If your child has an “accident”, and does, try to deal with it as soon as possible. Use a thick and absorbent towel and really stretch your muscles! The more you soak from the start, the less likely it is that stains/odors will show up later!
After soaking as much as possible (or if you find it drying out), mix a cleaning solution of 3 parts warm water and 1 part white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray until the area is saturated and dry with a clean towel after about 10 minutes. Sprinkle with baking soda and cover with a mixture of 3/4 cup of peroxide and 1 teaspoon of dish soap and massage it with your fingers as hard as you can to leave a space.
I won’t lie, it might be one of the worst things you’ll ever have to do, but trust me, it beats smelling pee every time you try to relax in your living room!

Allow the mixture to dry completely (perhaps overnight) and then vacuum the next day. If the smell is still present, I just repeat the vinegar mixture, followed by the baking soda and vacuum…works every time!
Of course, this will change depending on the existing upholstery on your particular sofa. But if you’re dealing with regular upholstery (not leather or anything like that!), this worked for us.
As before, make sure to soak up as much as possible with an absorbent towel. Then mix a solution of 50/50 water and white vinegar (1/2 cup each) and 1/4 cup dish soap until frothy (preferably with a hand mixer). Then use a bristle brush (an old toothbrush works) to spread it over the areas and scrub.
Getting urine out of a mattress can be difficult because it is so big and absorbent, but there are some tricks that can give us hope!

If youare lucky enough to have it on a small mattress in your crib, just wipe it down and clean with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar. Then put the mattress in the sun to dry (the sun naturally helps to neutralize the smell).
If you are dealing with a full size mattress, it is very important to wash as much as possible while it is still wet!
Once done, saturate the area completely with a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar for quick absorption and allow it to dry completely. Then turn the mattress over and do the same on the other side.
Although this may leave you sleeping on the sofa at night, it will ensure that the mattress is cleaned quickly and prevents odors from forming.

Your daughter’s diaper blew on the carpet. It happens to the best of us. Although it may seem like a big problem at the time, it is a simple solution to get rid of urine stains and odors. Just take some white vinegar. However, different carpet fabrics react differently to white vinegar, so test an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won’t damage it.
Your best fur tag along with a new white carpet? Yes, it’s frustrating, but dog accidents happen, right? With a white carpet you can try the white vinegar method. However, you can also try hydrogen peroxide to disinfect and add a whitening effect. Hydrogen peroxide kills odor-causing bacteria better than white vinegar, but you don’t want to use it on colored carpets. Again, you want to check the location before you start if possible.
Sometimes the urine of pets, especially cats, can be stronger. Therefore, it will be more difficult to completely remove this smell. For cat urine and older pets, you’ll want to remove the enzyme cleaner. You can buy an enzyme cleaner at the store, or you can easily make it at home. If you have never used an enzyme cleaner before, try this first.
A little white vinegar and baking soda can remove urine odor permanently. However, there are some precautions and tips to keep in mind when it comes to urine stains and odors.
