Before & After: 70s Kitchen Makeover On A Budget

If you need small kitchen renovation ideas, we have them. Our team has worked with many clients on the renovation of small kitchens.

Here are some examples to help you get the most out of a smaller kitchen.

It’s amazing what adding a few windows or opening up a wall can do for a small kitchen. Even adding a window or opening that overlooks another room can make the space feel a little bigger. That’s the vibe we got with our Clearview Ave. kitchen remodel, which featured a small kitchen with a large window that overlooks another part of the house.

While washing dishes at the sink, the homeowner can feel like they are a part of what is happening in the next room, even if they are not in the kitchen. It’s a happy compromise to get the most out of a closed kitchen.

If you don’t have a lot of wall space for cabinets, but you have a lot of space in the middle of your kitchen, then think about a large island. Not only is it a great place to store food, but it’s also a great addition to more storage and work space. You will have enough space to prepare and cook food, gather around the tray or relax with a cup of hot tea.

In this client example, we used island panels on the live edge as a wonderful way to invite people around the focal point. Plus, think about how many small dishes and appliances a homeowner can fit on an island that size!

The arrangement of kitchen cabinets and appliances can make or break the flow and functionality of a room. You need a lot of space to move around when you’re cooking and entertaining—from the sink to the stove to the fridge. The best layouts ensure that “traffic” flows smoothly.

Also consider speed and ease of use among the top tools. Don’t put the stove and dishwasher too far from the sink, because you won’t want to go too far every time you go from cleaning and food preparation to cooking (and then cleaning up). In the long run, you’ll be glad you prioritized convenience.

If you’re working with a small amount of square footage, you need to make the most of the space you have. This means using your storage options wisely. Think about the different things you want to store in your kitchen (or keep nearby). Consider whether certain types of cabinets would make storage and organization easier:

Does your older kitchen have cabinets above cabinets? Depending on the interior space, most of the software can be removed, leaving more space for building taller cabinets. In the before and after above, we removed the unnecessary soffit and installed larger cabinets, giving the homeowner much more storage space.

Depending on the interior height of your kitchen, the standard cabinet height may not reach the top of the ceiling. The space between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling is potential storage space! You just need a taller cabinet. Instead of 36 inches, choose a taller cabinet such as 42 inches.

Depending on how they fit into your kitchen layout, work with your designer to choose cabinets that are wider and deeper than traditional cabinets. Widths range from 12 to 36 inches and depths from 12 to 24 inches. Remember: Wall cabinets must not exceed the depth of the base cabinet.

The kitchen in our new home was one of my favorite rooms for obvious reasons. It was dark and old-fashioned, with finishes I wouldn’t have chosen on my own. Regardless, I knew we didn’t have the money for a complete makeover, so I worked with what he had. It may not be magazine worthy, but I’m very happy with the new and improved space! It’s amazing what a difference a new color and new hardware can make. Check out the before and after pictures and see for yourself!

The kitchen is very spacious, but it didn’t feel like it when you entered. The dark cabinets, decorations and lighting created a gloomy and lonely feeling. We painted all the cabinets, walls and trim Sherwin Williams Alabaster and it completely transformed the space. The light color made it bigger and more comfortable. do not you think?

Kitchen Makeovers On A Budget Before And After

Like I said before, we were on a budget and if you’ve done any research on paint cabinets, you know they don’t come cheap! However, we wanted them to be durable and professionally made to last (plus I was 9 months ahead of schedule and not dealing with such a large project). We cut some corners by hiring a painter to paint the doors and (like my wonderful mother-in-law) painted the bottom of the cabinets and removed all the doors to sand and shine before handing it over to the painter. This cuts our price in half!

The Kitchen Reveal

Another update that made a big difference was the kitchen faucet. Now that everything was easier, the dark brass pin stuck out like a sore thumb. We replaced it with this old Signature Hardware copper sink to match the existing copper sink. Although I would never have chosen a copper sink, I think the tap connector pulled it together and it worked!

Signature Hardware provided our recovery display pin. We couldn’t be more satisfied with their quality and customer service! If you’re looking to update your kitchen, check out their website here. They have everything you could possibly need!

The original light was just a half-red mountain in the middle of the place. We changed it and added lights on the dimmer for better lighting as the kitchen doesn’t get much natural light. I love the dimmer switch so I can create a softer, more moody lighting for evenings and parties. It makes such a difference!

We recently upgraded to a Keurig K-Cafe and I am pregnant! I even put together this cute little cafe for the party! They love these rose gold espresso spoons and the honey jar. Everything from Amazon!

My new favorite cookbook is the William Sonoma cookbook. There are so many delicious recipes and it looks so beautiful to see! I also love this Regina Andrews bowl. I’m not a fan of our granite and backsplash, so displaying pretty things like this helps distract.
