Now that we’ve covered the basics and what I try to consider when planning wall decor, let’s dive into 10 different ways to decorate a great wall!
Large Wall Art Ideas: 10+ Creative Designs For Modern Interiors
If you’re trying to avoid spending a lot of money on a large piece, you can create wall art that works as one large piece for a fraction of the cost of a gallery wall. There are plenty of methods and options for doing just that
. You can opt for a bundled and variegated variety or go the more consistent route. In the breakfast nook, I used the same Ikea frames to display iPhone photos from some of our travels.

Each photo is a different status and landmark/landscape photo that I took on my phone. Unforgettable, unique and although it captures the memories of 12 different trips, it works as a monochromatic piece of art. Note that it also takes up quite a bit of this wall. Be bigger than you think when framing pictures.
Large Wall Décor Ideas To Create A Bold And Unique Focal Point
Another simple “gallery” that works as one piece is the wall baskets on the screened porch. They are all the same but three different sizes. I quickly put them into an organic shape and it was “good!”
These days, the sun-kissed gallery wall in our front room doesn’t flush with the rest of our house and is slated for a facelift. But this is a great example of sticking to one of them when using eclectic cutting and mixing metals.
In my office is what I call a “gallery wall” – I have a large piece, along with three identical aluminum foil prints that I rotate while hanging, in a large square. Although the pieces are different, they share the same frame.

How To Choose Large Wall Art For Living Room
There are some beautiful galleries of black and white, color photos, single frames and mats of different sizes and all different frames and media, etc. If you’re looking for something a little easier and more relaxed, stay tuned. If you’re adventurous and want to make an artistic statement, mix it up.
Sometimes art isn’t the only thing you need (or can use) it for. The space was large and empty and I wanted a console table
Bit of a boardwalk. I was still able to get a tight side piece and create an overall “moment” in the room. Not enough space for a console table? You can do the same thing with a bench or a group of benches!

. I don’t want a piece of art hanging on the wall. I want it to be part of the wall – does that make sense?! Haha this white wood carving is 48″ x 48″…

The art on the living room wall measures 40 by 54 inches, and although it’s big in person, it’s actually even bigger!
I love pairing up art as a group, especially if I want something along the top of the wall. It also saves some money since the two smaller framed pieces cost less than usual
The wall basket I was waiting for didn’t actually arrive 😉 – totally happy accident. I have a lot of questions about this; The original Etsy shop that printed these words closed down shortly after they were revealed, but you can find a similar option here. The frames I chose were in the 16″ x 20″ option, but that’s actually the size of the photo inside the rug. Actual frame dimensions are 23 x 28 inches.

I also like to research an art series and pick a couple of favorites to keep as a collection. These are vintage lily leaf art pieces from ZGallerie about six years ago. Here’s a pro tip – i
Browse print for art. Although it is not easy to “identify” a group, they usually number their prints in series with Roman numerals. In the search bar, I’m looking for “II”, which stands for “2”. When I run the results I check “art” in the filters so it only gives me art (instead of cards, stationery, etc.) and everything that filters from there is the second part of the art string. If you find a piece you like, click on the artist’s name and you can browse their other work. Nine times out of ten, if they have any II symbol, there is also an I (sometimes III and IV).
A more sophisticated (yet statement-making, sure!) way to “decorate” large walls is to turn your walls into art yourself. Adding trim and molding is something we’ve done to customize different spaces throughout our home, and although you can add art on top, they can stand on their own without any additional embellishments. In Eliza’s nursery we added five single boxes of picture frames, but in our bedroom we added two rows of boxes around the entire room. We also added complete detailing around the vaulted ceiling. I’ve had a contractor do all the work, but using shoe molding and gluing regular boxes directly to the drywall and painting them keeps costs down on projects that can get started quickly.

How To Decorate A Large Wall In Your Living Room
I have a large wall in the living room where the kitchen hatch is very bare. I added a faux half column to match the columns on the other side of the living room…

And this detail was added, wrapped under the crossbar, around the corner to meet the new column. Functionally, it also helped clean up scuff marks from feet kicking that wall; In the past flat paint looked bad. The semi-gloss finish of the wall detail is more rubbable!
While I stick to doing more portraits in my room, there are many good options if you’re exploring and mounting the board or even landscape/vertical.
Large Wall Decor Ideas
I got into the wallpaper world earlier this year and… I’m totally obsessed. It started with our little powder room where it could easily have been more daring and adventurous and I think the risk paid off completely. I also found it difficult to hold the top 1/3 while going with the template on the bottom 2/3. I don’t have an extra piece of art and am now trying to decide where to put the wallpaper next!
If you don’t feel like making a commitment, there are also peel-and-stick options that are super easy to apply. I installed faux brick in a master bathroom vanity a few years ago!
I mentioned at the beginning that my first and easiest instinct is to choose a statement mirror. As with great art, the size you choose makes all the difference. This mirror measures 48″ but works with a wall scale.
