We bought our house when the oak house was harsh, and even 8 years ago it was a good shade of dark. We still love our favorite neutral wall color, but our style and taste have evolved. The good news for us is that we can use DIY projects on a budget to update our kitchen again and again.
Now we try to find temporary options when choosing home decoration. However, we didn’t want to add anything new to this kitchen.
You can paint walls, cabinets, and even a tile backsplash to give your kitchen a modern aesthetic. A fresh coat of paint can only go so long. We originally planned to paint just the lower cabinets, but after we started, we realized that everything needed a new coat or two.

For example, in this small kitchen mod, our friends achieved a modern feel without painting the oak cabinets! We love the modern touches like new matte black appliances and updated faucets.
Since our oak cabinets have seen better days, we decided to paint them instead of replacing them completely. Their painting was our cheapest and best option.
For reference, our kitchen has 12 upper cabinets with doors, 3 drawers and an island with two cabinets, and 11 lower cabinets with doors and 12 drawers. Total kitchen layout is 12′ x 14′ = 168 square feet.

The upper cabinets are about 40 square meters and the lower cabinets are approx. The actual closet space is 43.5 square meters.
So using the statistics of the photos above, we estimate that a professional paint job to professionally spray paint our kitchen cabinets would be around $2,800.
About $150 for paint and accessories. Remember there is paint and hardware left. It’s safe to say that it’s not just a few hundred dollars to have our kitchen professionally painted.
$150 in paint and supplies (new foam roller, duct tape, deglosser, bottle of paint) was well worth it to paint not only the cabinets, but the backsplash as well.

By comparing different whites, we found that the Emerald paint is the cleanest and purest. We didn’t want to stand out from the current white color on the shapes. Test your paint colors in different lighting conditions and compare them to actual paint colors, etc.
Sherwin Williams says that a gallon of paint should cover about 100 square feet. With my calculations above, it is completely understandable why I end up with more than half a gallon of paint. I left some green because I had to paint the stone of the island and didn’t add to the cost of the square footage.
We chose a large French door refrigerator with a bottom freezer that has served my family well. Now we can easily store and bring food. We have an LG refrigerator that is over 10 years old and still works great!
You will be amazed at the amount of dirt that can accumulate on the knobs, handles and hinges of your cabinet. Don’t forget to wipe the surfaces of the cabinets and appliances. Starting from a clean slate makes a big difference, especially if you’re not completely hacking.

Since our cabinets were already painted white, we didn’t need to paint them. Here we will tell you how to paint stained cabinets. For this inexpensive kitchen mod (after 8 years), I bought a gallon of SW Rookwood Sash Green and SW Emerald Urethane in the base color (High Reflector White). Half a gallon of each paint is left. I used white paint to paint the background.
