Every time I look at these BEFORE pictures I can’t believe we bought the house in that condition! Now I look back and wonder, “What were we thinking!?” DYING LAUGHING! But now that our house has been outfitted with slow, inexpensive updates, we are realizing the dream we had for this house.

We added upper cabinets that we took out of the kitchen. We were lucky that the upper cabinet we took out of the kitchen fit PERFECTLY in the laundry room!
I painted the cabinets gray (and then painted them white) following this tutorial for painting kitchen cabinets.
Then I added peel and stick underground wallpaper and the Dollar Tree floral background (you can read all about the wallpaper, where to find it and how to apply it in this post).
We added plywood to the wall with a coat hook and I made a big sign that said Wash and Fold.

Our laundry room stayed like this for about 1.5 years until I decided to update our entry coat closet in the side bedroom.
Having a large mudroom meant we no longer needed a bench in the laundry room, so I decided to go back to using the laundry room sink. Luckily, my husband just broke the plumbing seals and made a bench around the plumbing in case we wanted to move the sink back into the space.
I decided to paint the tile floor in the laundry room with a stencil. I used a beautiful stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils (which you can find here) and white chalk paint. I covered the floor with water based polyurethane.
The next update in our laundry room is to remove the popcorn ceiling. The easiest solution is to cover the ceiling with beads.

We also added a fun ceiling light with a remote control for mood color, temperature, and motion-activated control.
After about a month I noticed that the grout was starting to yellow on my beautiful patterned floor 🙁 So I decided to paint the entire floor Benjamin Moore Gray.
Now that the floors are painted, we are ready to add a DIY sink and vanity to the room.
We made a base for our laundry room sink. We built this sink out of wood and based it on the measurements of our laundry basket (lol!). I wanted a custom basket that would fit under the faucet and sink, so I told my husband to make the sink to those measurements.

We did the base and then went shopping for sinks. We found our sinks at Your Home Discount Warehouse, a local Home Depot store and got a great deal.
After installing the sink in the sink, we used an old overhead sink faucet until we found the perfect Vigo laundry faucet.
