Our master bedroom and master bedroom were definitely a challenge to decide on the right arrangement due to the limited size.

Small Bedroom Ideas You’ll Love

After high school friend Robert moved to a new house this summer, we decided to give him and his wife (Richard and Ashley) a housewarming gift by decorating a small bedroom.

Look at the difference! It’s better than what it was before! (To be fair, the photo is better, but you get the point.)

The best part is, we did it on a shoestring budget using designs and colors from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart.

This got me thinking about all the ideas that can be done to make a small bedroom feel bigger than it actually is.

If you have a similar problem, I hope they help you. (You can see how to make small rooms look bigger in the rest of the house too).

Go big and challenge the technology! Hanging artwork on the top of the wall naturally draws your eyes to the ceiling to make the space appear larger. Or choose one large statement piece and create the illusion of a large room.

I created this photo wall using gold irregular wall frames and wooden wall frames with a regular print for a more collected look. The bedside tables are an old piece that we had hanging in our dining room. It looks perfect here.

Choose a very light or dark shade for the wall. Generally, your best bet is the paint color on the top of the paint swatch strip or the bottom of the paint swatch strip. Stay away from mid tones as they create the appearance of a smaller space.

Contrary to popular belief, dark colors on bedroom walls can create the illusion of a larger space. Bonus: Dark color in the bedroom can improve sleep! (I haven’t been sleeping well since we painted our bedroom walls black.)

To keep the space between the bed and dresser open, I painted an old Better Homes & Gardens dresser in Summer Mix.

A bit of black adds contrast and depth, so we painted the bed with Better Homes & Gardens Obsidian. He continued to walk safely! Not a single brush stroke to be seen!

One simple step that makes a big difference in creating the illusion of a large bedroom is to lower the mattress. You can do this by replacing the traditional pocket spring with a spring that is less than 3 inches. If the bed sits in a small room, it can take up space.

Add rugs under the bed to define the room. In the case of this bedroom, the rug helps soften the space and adds a bit of texture to the curb appeal.

Go tall and wide with curtain panels. Be sure to buy curtains that are long enough to “kiss” the floor. I like to hang the curtain rods only 2-3 inches below the crown molding and extend about 12 inches on each side of the window frame so that the entire window can be seen when the curtains are opened.

It creates the illusion of large windows, high ceilings and gives more light! I love the texture of these curtain panels.

A simple white bed is your best friend, making the bedroom clean, bright and inviting. I love the pattern on this chenille blanket and added a little texture to the gray pillow and large blanket.

Budget Bedroom Ideas To Make Your Bedroom Look Expensive

Use a mirror to bounce light around the room, especially on the wall in front of the window. You can never go wrong with a custom round mirror that sits atop a wooden dresser.

Candles and lamps make the cave bedroom cozier. I painted these ceramic table lamps a traditional bronze color to add some warmth and atmosphere. A few candles scattered around the room make the room very cozy.

A few plants can provide life in a small room. So I put them together, including this sweet potato, in this beautiful white planter. In these vases I used a simple eucalyptus that I painted to add life to the vase as well.

I have a terrible record with houseplants, but over the years I have found that the best houseplants…

Eliminate clutter as much as possible by scrolling so you don’t lose sight of things. I used a tray on top of the dresser, some small decorative bowls on the nightstands and gave these nightstands space in the drawer.

Well! This bedroom came together really well and I think we did it in record time!

Like our other homes, our master suite isn’t that big! We have to be creative to make the universe work for us! Here are some small home design ideas to enhance your space!

Things Missing In Your Master Bedroom Design

We added Ikea Pax boxes to one corner of the space to give Mark his own space and we could put a chest of drawers at the end of the bed.

It is important to add that more storage space in the room is important because the entrance room is small. To make the small closet more functional, we added a chest of drawers!

We opted for sliding barn doors between the bedroom and the en-suite. The original door folded into the half bath, which was not ideal. However, there is no place to place it in the bedroom either, especially with standing wardrobes.

The barn door slides right behind the shelves and doesn’t waste an inch of space! This is one of my favorite things in the house!

Bedroom Ideas To Create The Dreamiest Sanctuary

I placed a large round mirror above the dresser to soften all the angles of the opening and dressers etc… that surround it. It also reflects the light in the room and makes the space look bigger!

We were able to squeeze a king size bed into the space, which was essential for Mark who is 6’6″! But we had to get a little creative to make it fit!

We created a fake headboard on the wall by cutting and drawing instead of a bed frame or a large board. It saved precious room space and allowed us to fit a king size bed.

I added this cute little “headboard” sticker and I think it’s the perfect finishing touch!

Stylish Bedroom Ideas

To make the room light and airy, I chose smaller and more open bedside tables. They have storage drawers next to the bed and a nice basket under them to hide the mess.

I kept the details simple in the room to avoid clutter. Everything is stored in cabinets, drawers or baskets and only one item is shown!

My favorite diffuser of all time is out! I don’t light candles in our house anymore. I didn’t realize how toxic they could be and didn’t want to risk a fire. Read more about essential oils here.

The closed storage nightstands below allow us to fit everything but a few nice things!

The top of the shirt is also preserved. The jewelry is stored in the master bedroom. and towels and toiletries etc. they are in the master bathroom.

Just because the room is small doesn’t mean you can’t have the most fun! By keeping the rest of the design simple, there’s room to add a plush bed, lots of pillows, and custom ceiling-length curtains!
